How You Can Help #DefendtheITC

Aug 22, 2019 10:00:00 AM / by SEIA

We need to build momentum for the Renewable Energy Extension Act and keep the pressure on lawmakers to support solar's #1 federal policy priority.

Last month, leaders in the U.S. House and Senate introduced companion bills to extend the 30% solar Investment Tax Credit (ITC) for 5 years, a major step on the road to defending this critical, bipartisan policy.
You can show additional support by:

  • Visiting your member of Congress. Recess is here and your reps will most likely be in their district offices from now until September 8. Showing up is the best way to show you care. Watch this webinar to learn how to plan a visit and email Heather Whitpan at hwhitpan@seia.org for assistance.

  • Calling your Representative. It'll be quieter in August and Congressional staff in DC may have more time to listen to your concerns. You can look up your member of Congressusing your zip code. Remember, you may have more than one representative if you have projects in multiple states.

  • Writing a testimonial about the impact of the ITC on your business. We need to know local impacts and how the ITC has affected jobs, expansion plans, your bottom line, the surrounding community, and more. Tell us how important the ITC is to your company.

  • Sending a post card! Join Vote Solar and Solar United Neighbors by sharing a personal story about solar with a photo and plug for the ITC.

  • Continuing to be loud on social media! Make sure you use #DefendTheITC on all social media platforms.

Looking for other ways to stay engaged and inform your legislators about the importance of solar energy?

  • Attend Solar Power International, a part of North America Smart Energy Week, in Salt Lake City, Utah from September 23-26.
  • Join SEIA for the Western States Lobby Day on October 23 and 24! If you live in the West (including California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Hawaii, and Alaska), this is a great opportunity to sit down with your representatives face-to-face and advocate for solar!
  • Save the Date for the Solar+ Policy Summit in Washington, DC from December 4-5.
