Solar Plus Storage: Solving Power Outages

As a heat wave rolled through California earlier this month, residents cranked their air conditioning to stay cool. This caused a spike in electricity demand,  and therefore, a stress on the grid. The stress on the grid was so extreme that "state power grid officials Friday night ordered utility companies for the first time since the energy crisis in 2001 to begin rolling, one-hour outages to thousands of customers." ( CBS San Francisco )

Some news outlets were quick to blame the solar energy industry for the lack of ability to meet peak demand. This could not be further from the truth, as the fossil fuel industry was the one to blame for not being able to meet the increased demand.

Breiter Planet Properties President Andrew Breiter-Wu puts on his detective cap to get to the bottom of this. He explains why the solar industry is not to blame and how solar energy plus storage is a solution to these meeting increased demand during heatwaves.

As technology continues to improve, prices drop, and more solar and storage projects are deployed in California, the United States, and the rest of the World, increased electricity demand will not cause blackouts.
